How to Cancel Xbox Game Pass UK

Xbox Game Pass gives you access to a rotating library of games on console, PC, or both. Game Pass Ultimate bundles console and PC access with Xbox Live Gold (online multiplayer) and EA Play. Understanding which tier you are on is important before cancelling, as the impact differs by plan.

⚠️ Games Stop Working Immediately on Expiry

Unlike video streaming services, Game Pass games do not become read-only — they become completely unplayable as soon as your subscription lapses. If you have a game in progress, finish it or note your progress before your billing period ends.

Cancelling via Xbox.com

  1. Go to xbox.com and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  2. Click your profile icon and select Microsoft account.
  3. Go to Services & subscriptions.
  4. Find Game Pass and click Manage, then Cancel.
  5. Follow the prompts to confirm. You will receive a confirmation email.

Cancelling via Xbox Console

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Subscriptions.
  3. Select your Game Pass subscription and choose Cancel subscription.

Key Points to Know

Game saves are retained

Your cloud saves are kept even after cancellation. If you resubscribe later or purchase a Game Pass game outright, your progress will be waiting.

Games you purchased with a member discount

Any games you bought at the Game Pass member discount price are yours permanently and will continue to work after cancellation.

Online multiplayer

Game Pass Ultimate includes Xbox Live Gold, which is required for online multiplayer on console. Cancelling Ultimate removes this — free-to-play games are exempt and remain playable online.

PC Game Pass vs Game Pass Ultimate

PC Game Pass covers PC games only. Game Pass Ultimate adds console access, Xbox Live Gold, and EA Play. If you only play on PC, the cheaper PC tier may be sufficient before you consider cancelling entirely.
